Tiger Eye is one of those stones that refuses to sit still. Turn it toward the light, and brilliant bands of golden yellow seem to sweep across deep chocolate-brown stone. That moving flashโ€”the famous โ€œtigerโ€™s eyeโ€โ€”is a natural optical effect called chatoyancy.

This necklace puts that flash front and center. The Tiger Eye is cut into unusual pointed trapezoids, graduated from approximately 20 mm at the sides to a dramatic 30 mm center bead. The beads are separated by gold-plated pewter dotted tubes. Each bead is about 10 mm across the top, creating a strong geometric line while allowing the natural golden and brown banding to take center stage.

Tiger Eye begins with a fibrous mineral structure that is transformed through geological processes involving silica-rich fluids. The resulting stone is composed predominantly of quartz, while retaining a finely fibrous internal texture. Iron oxides contribute the characteristic golden-yellow to brown coloration.

But it is the arrangement of those microscopic fibers that creates the magic. Light reflecting from the parallel internal structures produces chatoyancyโ€”a concentrated band of light that appears to move across the polished stone as either the stone or the viewer moves. The word comes from the French ล“il-de-chat, meaning โ€œcatโ€™s eye.โ€ ๐Ÿ…

โœจ ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ป
The graduated Tiger Eye section is flanked by a substantial 4 mm gold-plated steel cable chain, giving the necklace a clean, contemporary finish without competing with the stones. The gold plating is applied by a more resilient vapor-deposition process for improved durability. Finished at 22 inches, the necklace closes with a gold-plated steel lobster clasp.

The combination of warm gold, rich brown, geometric shapes, and that marvelous moving eye makes this a necklace that changes every time it catches the light.

It is often considered a stone that combines the stabilizing qualities of the earth with the energizing warmth of the sun.

๐Ÿ… Do you already have Tiger Eye in your collectionโ€”or is it the flash that makes you stop and pick up every piece you see?

NOTE there is an alternate shorter version of this.

Sometimes the most interesting gemstone isnโ€™t the one with perfect, uninterrupted color. Itโ€™s the one that lets us see something of what happened while the crystal was growing. That is what drew me to the cabochon at the center of this necklace.

Deep within the purple amethyst are dramatic radiating patternsโ€”my โ€œstarburst.โ€ Rather than hiding the disruptions that occurred as the quartz crystals formed, the polished stone puts them on display. Changes and interruptions during crystal growth can produce variations in color, inclusions, and internal structures that become part of the stoneโ€™s visual record.

๐Ÿ”ฌ ๐—” ๐—Ÿ๐—ถ๐˜๐˜๐—น๐—ฒ ๐—š๐—ฒ๐—ผ๐—น๐—ผ๐—ด๐˜†
Amethyst is the purple variety of quartzโ€”silicon dioxide (SiOโ‚‚). Its purple color develops when trace amounts of iron incorporated into the quartz crystal structure are affected by natural irradiation within the surrounding rock.

Quartz crystals grow as silica-rich fluids move through openings and cavities in rock. But the conditions surrounding a growing crystal are not necessarily constant. Changes in the chemistry or availability of the mineral-rich fluids, temperature, or the crystalโ€™s growth environment can interrupt or alter growth. When growth resumes, those events may be preserved as visible patterns within the crystal.
In this cabochon, those patterns radiate dramatically through the purple quartz, creating the feature that inspired the name Amethyst Starburst. โœจ

๐Ÿ’œ ๐—ง๐—ต๐—ฒ ๐——๐—ฒ๐˜€๐—ถ๐—ด๐—ป
The starburst cabochon became the natural centerpiece of the necklace, so I wire-wrapped it in a way that would continue its sense of movement. Two of the wrapping wires are embellished with freshwater pearls and 4 mm faceted amethyst rounds. Above the stone, the wire ends spiral and sweep into curves, echoing some of the movement within the cabochon itself.

From the pendant, the necklace continues with 4 mm faceted amethyst rounds and 12 mm puffy amethyst coins, accented with delicate pewter spacers. These transition into a repeating pattern of freshwater pearls in varying shades of violet, with tiny dark-pewter 11/0 seed beads separating the pearls and adding just a hint of metallic detail. At 22 inches long, the necklace closes with a granulated pewter heart toggle clasp. The result is layers of purpleโ€”from translucent amethyst to the softer luster and varied violet shades of freshwater pearlsโ€”all built around a stone that carries a visible record of its own formation.

Some gemstones inspire a design because of a landscape or a season. Others simply speak for themselves.

Malachite has always been one of those stones for me. Its rich green colors, flowing bands, and remarkable natural patterns have long made it one of my favorite gemstonesโ€”and judging by how quickly it disappears from my displays, many of you feel the same way!
This collection celebrates that beauty in several ways. Three pendant styles showcase polished barrels and cubes of natural malachite, with articulated designs that allow the stones to move gracefully as you wear them. The matching divided necklace features a graduated trapezoid focal accented by polished malachite cubes and pewter spacers before transitioning into a lightweight stainless-steel chain. At 23 inches, the necklace can easily be shortened to your preferred length.

๐Ÿ’š No two stones are alike. Some display straight emerald-green bands, while others reveal the concentric "eye" patterns that have made malachite famous. Every glossy bead is a small work of nature's art.

Malachite is a copper carbonate mineral that forms when copper-rich groundwater reacts with limestone or other carbonate rocks. Over thousands to millions of years, minerals are deposited in layers, producing the distinctive parallel and concentric banding that makes each piece unique. Those brilliant greens come directly from the copper within the mineral itself.

Malachite has long been known as the Stone of Transformation. It is traditionally associated with courage during times of change, emotional healing, and protective energy. Many believe it encourages us to release old patterns, embrace personal growth, and move forward with confidence while helping shield against negative influences.

๐Ÿ’š Whether you're already a devoted collector or discovering malachite for the first time, I hope these designs capture the timeless beauty that has made this gemstone a favorite for generations.

Some color combinations simply belong together. Deep evergreen forests beneath an endless night sky...that was the inspiration behind this new Keletica design.

Alternating graduated trapezoids of natural malachite and lapis lazuli create a striking landscape in stone. The rich greens of the malachite display their beautiful natural bands of light and dark green, while the deep royal-blue lapis is sprinkled with tiny flecks of shimmering pyrite that sparkle like distant stars. A divided seven-inch gemstone section is complemented by a medium-weight stainless-steel chain, bringing the finished necklace to a graceful 22 inches in length.

Lapis lazuli is not a single mineral but a beautiful metamorphic rock composed primarily of lazurite, along with calcite and tiny crystals of pyrite. Those golden flecks are genuine pyriteโ€”often called "Fool's Gold"โ€”which formed naturally alongside the blue minerals millions of years ago.
Malachite forms in a completely different way. It develops when copper-rich groundwater reacts with carbonate minerals near Earth's surface. As new layers of malachite grow, they produce the beautiful concentric bands that make every stone unique.
Together these two stones tell a remarkable geological storyโ€”one born deep within mountain-building events, the other formed through the weathering of ancient copper deposits.

Lapis Lazuli has long been associated with wisdom, truth, and clear communication, encouraging us to express our authentic selves.
Malachite is traditionally regarded as a stone of transformation and protection, supporting personal growth while encouraging positive change.
Together they symbolize finding wisdom while embracing life's continual journey of growth.

๐ŸŒฟ Every Keletica design begins with the beauty of natural stone and the landscapes that inspire it. This necklace reminds me of standing in a mountain forest after sunset, watching the first stars appear overhead.

๐Ÿ’œ Which part captures your imagination mostโ€”the deep blue star-filled lapis or the richly banded greens of the malachite?

Have you ever stood beside a glacial lake with the sunlight sparkling on its surface?
Have you ever stood beside a mountain lake where sunlight dances across crystal-clear water while snow-covered peaks rise in the distance?
That moment became the inspiration for this newest Keletica design.

Alternating sections of amazonite and labradorite faceted points create a flowing rhythm of cool color and brilliant light. The softly blue-green amazonite provides a calm foundation, while every labradorite point bursts to life with brilliant flashes of blue, golden yellow, and rainbow colors that seem to move as the necklace catches the light. The nine-inch divided gemstone section is paired with a medium-weight stainless-steel chain for a finished length of 20 inches.

Amazonite is a variety of the mineral microcline feldspar. Its soothing blue-green color comes from trace amounts of lead incorporated into its crystal structure, while delicate white lines are produced by microscopic intergrowths within the feldspar.
Labradorite belongs to another feldspar family but displays one of nature's most remarkable optical effectsโ€”labradorescence. Tiny microscopic layers inside each crystal scatter and interfere with light, creating brilliant flashes that seem to glow from within the stone itself. No dyes or treatments are responsibleโ€”it's simply the physics of light interacting with the mineral's internal structure.

Amazonite is traditionally associated with calm, confidence, and honest communication.
Labradorite is often called a stone of intuition and transformation, believed to encourage creativity while reminding us to embrace new possibilities.
Together they evoke peaceful reflection balanced by the excitement of discovery.

๐ŸŒฟ Nature has an extraordinary way of combining serenity with brilliance. This necklace reminds me of watching sunlight sparkle across a mountain glacier lakeโ€”a quiet moment filled with constantly changing light.

๐Ÿ’œ Which gemstone speaks to you most: the tranquil blue-green amazonite or the magical flashes hidden within every labradorite point?
