located on Staten Island, New York, was opened by Joe Scaratella 11 years ago, after his mother, sister and grandmother passed away. “My grandmother was the best cook and I grew up with her. After everyone passed I thought, ‘There’s probably a lot of these women out there that are really great cooks’.” The restaurant has a rotating staff of 30 nonnas, and features grandmothers from countries around the world. ”I think I was secretly trying to comfort myself and surround myself with these ladies, these Italian grandmothers.” Lucky guy recently got to stuff his face with raviolis, and photograph some of the beloved grandmas; Rezzan from Turkey, Adelina from Italy, Habiba from Algeria, May Joseph ‘Dolly’ from Sri Lanka, Maria from Italy, and Pauline from Trinidad and Tobago.
