Last night at : Ancient strings, New York energy. 🌃🎻
Shoutout to Wensong Bai for an incredible performance and the world premiere of “Loulan San.” It’s rare to see this level of Guqin mastery outside of China, but NYC’s scene is officially on another level. 📈✨
Major milestone: 10 years of 7s Art (七堂). 🎂 A perfect way to wrap up a decade of teaching and performing.

Three cups of tea, three stories. 🍵✨
This weekend at “Seven Halls,” I attended a beautiful tea ceremony hosted by Chris. Using premium Kyushu tea, he wove together tales from three novels by Shusaku Endo.
It was my first time learning that the roots of Japanese Catholicism actually trace back to Malacca. It was there that St. Francis Xavier met Anjirō, a fugitive samurai from Satsuma. A chance encounter that changed history forever. 📖⛪️
But what moved me even more than the history was Chris’s family. In a world that often prioritizes the practical, his family supports his “writing dream” with such pure heart. His Christmas gift from his parents? A 10-week novel writing workshop. 🎁✍️
I’ve watched his mother and aunt quietly take over the cleaning and organizing after each session. Their grace and meticulous care for the home left me with a profound thought:
The true level of a society’s civilization is found in its ability to handle the “domestic.” To care for one’s immediate surroundings with such detail is the ultimate form of dignity. As the saying goes: “How can one sweep the world if one cannot first sweep a single room?” 🧹🌿
Deeply grateful for this weekend of tea, history, and family warmth.

Winter Exclusive | This Ikebana Piece Brings All the New Year Vibes! 🎄✨
Hello everyone! Sharing a recent floral arrangement piece that I absolutely love, perfect for this time of transition from deep winter into the new year! ❄️🏮
The core inspiration for this piece is finding the perfect balance between festive cheer and reserved elegance.
I chose the lush Hippeastrum as the main flower, cleverly keeping the buds in a state of ‘about to bloom’. This carries the powerful feeling of celebration without being overwhelming—just the right touch of sophistication!
Framing the sides are two flowing Milky Way Aspidistra leaves. Their natural white speckles look just like falling snow, creating an airy sense of space with every gentle curve, allowing the whole composition to ”slow down.“ 🌿
To anchor the visual weight at the bottom, I used carnations to create a solid mass, stabilizing the upward-growing structure. I also subtly incorporated pine and cypress needles in the lower section to amplify the winter atmosphere and connect the weight between the flowers and the dark, curved vase. 🌲
The finishing touch is the Baby’s Breath at the top! They extend lightly upwards like snow dots floating in the air, offering a feeling of weightless ascent and letting the entire piece breathe. 💡
Paired with this sleek, curved black vase, it is truly the definition of atmospheric aesthetics! I hope this artwork brings you a sense of peace and hopeful new year energy.

The Contemporary Resonance of 7弦: Bai Wensong performs ”Qin Qu III“ 🪵🎻
A mesmerizing encounter between tradition and modernity. In this performance, Bai Wensong brings to life ”Qin Qu III“, a groundbreaking original work by renowned composer Luo Maishuo.
As the commissioned piece for the 2025 Singapore Guqin Convention (Professional Category), Qin Qu III moves beyond mere historical imitation. It is a bold exploration of the Guqin’s sonic possibilities in 2026.
✨ Musical Insight:
While the previous works in this series focused on experimental techniques, Qin Qu III emphasizes the ”joy of playing“ and the purity of the instrument itself. Under Bai Wensong’s fingertips, the solo Guqin creates a rich, textured world without the need for accompaniment. Every slide and strike captures the tension between ancient wood and contemporary soul.
🌌 Artist Vision:
Bai Wensong’s interpretation is both precise and liberated. He captures the rhythmic vitality and the ”living breath“ of Luo Maishuo’s composition, proving that the Guqin is not a relic of the past, but a vibrant voice of the present.
Experience the sound of ”New Guqin“ through the hands of a master.

We are really excited to present Chris Cole’s tea party🍵🍵

Through tasting the teas of Kyushu and exploring the literary works of one of Japan’s most prolific writers, Shusaku Endo, we examine the history of Christianity in Japan. 2026 marks the 60th anniversary of the release of Endo’s seminal novel, “Chinmoku,” known as “Silence” in the English-speaking world. Focusing mainly on the teas of Kagoshima and Nagasaki, we will explore the world of Silence and Japan’s troubled relationship with Christianity. No prior knowledge of the books or topic is required, but it is certainly encouraged.
