🪴Everybody’s talking about the bad VOCs, but did you know that the original VOCs were emitted by plants for millions of years and those are the GOOD ones!

So why not grow a plant inside? Studies show that growing plants helps improve your mood, alleviate anxiety and depression, increases dopamine. Caring for a living creature grounds you. But what’s even more amazing is layering scent into your home with real plants.

This oncidium Heaven Scent Redolence is blooming like crazy and I wish you could smell this!! It’s a vanilla chocolate paradise.

So instead of only removing scents, why not ADD the real perfume from a living being? Your body and Persephone will thank you!

Delighted to be featured in Homes & Gardens on the best houseplants for biophilic design. 🌿

I was especially happy to share a thought at the heart of my work:

“Our homes are living ecosystems. They are not a passive backdrop but an active participant in our health.”

Biophilic design is about more than adding a beautiful plant to a room. We’re not simply decorating with nature. We’re honoring our ancient biology.

Thank you to Homes & Gardens for including my perspective!

A little press lately. 🖤

I recently spoke with PARADE Magazine about the return of black kitchens—and my very anthropological way of looking at why certain spaces resonate with us.

The story has now made its way to Yahoo Life as well. What I love about these conversations is that they allow me to talk about design beyond aesthetics: Why does something feel the way it does beyond looks?

Thank you to Parade and Yahoo for the conversation—and for giving me the space to talk about design through an anthropological lens.

We think of beauty as subjective but the science of neuroaesthetics says something else. Beauty is felt by all your senses.

Beauty changes our nervous system. Beauty isn’t just something we see—it’ something our biology responds to.

Beauty is a language our biology understands.

If you love learning how to design with your biology in mind, then you’ve come to the right place.
