Alright who knows what are?!!! This is how almost every plastic product begins. They are especially detrimental in the environment because they look like larva or fish / amphibian eggs. When ingested they do not pass through most animals gut often getting stuck causing ulceration and the feeling the animal is full. Believe it or not these things are ALL over the place. I found these in my home after my dog broke open a bean bag. Once you know what they are you start seeing them because THEY DON’T BREAK DOWN so it’s only a matter of time before they are released into the environment. If you’re un-lucky enough to find some of these little guys, take the time and pick them up. It helps if you yell out an arbitrary number of points that you get for such a find, “ooooh nurdles, 10 points!” We live in a world where more people know what a Gucci belt is but they don’t know what a nurdle is🤔

Something that never stops growing is dangerous. Think of cancerous cells. In nature cycles of death and rebirth are imperative for a healthy system. I may not be as smart as all those fat cats on Wall Street but it seems to me that expecting our economy to constantly grow serves only to benefit the shareholders at the top. It’s an unrealistic expectation that I could only assume will have disastrous consequences eventually. Investing in a solid future seems much more pragmatic than living in the moment. I’ve never understood climate deniers. Even if you don’t believe we’re in crisis, do you not believe there is great room for improvement?

Alright I’ll go first. My resolution this year is ultimately to become as carbon neutral as possible. What that means for me is Riding my bike, walking and taking the stairs. Eating less meat and dairy products. Making a conscious effort to limit my consumption of single use plastics. Putting my money where I understand and believe in the values of the company that receives it. Please tell me what your resolutions are! Even if they’re not under the umbrella of sustainability. People love to make fun of resolutions but on the other hand we tell each other it’s healthy to set personal goals. I want to hear what your plans are for the year ahead!

Do you like to set intentions for the new year?

I have had successful New Year resolutions in previous years. I try to set goals that are reasonably attainable so I don’t get discouraged. You can always add onto a resolution at a later date. I can’t wait to hear from you about your plans and eventual successes in 2020!!

Shout out to the San Francisco International Airport who is killing it in the sustainability department!! There are only two places to put your waste in the food areas; compost and recycle! The restaurants all sell their food in compostable containers. There are NO single use plastic water bottles sold in the entire airport. If you want water it comes in aluminum or glass and there are plenty of refill stations if you bring a water bottle from home. If more large businesses took the same amount of responsibility as SFO we might just be able to make a difference.
