February is Black History Month.

Did you know, my ancestry traces back to Benin & Togo, Ivory Coast & Ghana, Nigeria, Mali, and Senegal? These regions are part of my lineage, my DNA, my inherited resilience.

Black history is not just historical.
It’s economic.
It’s cultural.
It’s entrepreneurial.
It’s happening right now.

Supporting Black-owned businesses isn’t just a feel-good gesture. It’s an act of equity. It’s helping close generational wealth gaps that were intentionally created. It’s investing in creativity, leadership, and sustainability.

Courage & Clay exists because I chose to build something of my own, but I’m not the only one. There are countless Black founders creating, innovating, and showing up every day.

This month, I encourage you to:

🤎 Share them with your community
🤎 Spend intentionally
🤎 Normalize supporting beyond February

I started Courage & Clay when I was 32.

Not because I had everything figured out.
Not because it felt safe or obvious.

But because there was a moment where I realized the thing I wanted to build didn’t need permission…not from the timeline I had in my head, from other people, or from the version of success I thought I was supposed to want.

Starting this business was less about “being brave” and more about finally listening to myself.

If you’re in a season where something keeps pulling at you quietly, this is your reminder: you don’t need a sign. You don’t need to wait until it makes sense.

Sometimes the courage is simply starting.
