My “word of the year” for 2023 has been “Seek”. I want to be a seeker of knowledge. As a father - how can I best take care of my daughter, as a new employee - how can I best learn how to do my job, as a Christian - how can I continue to learn and study the Bible. I want to be a seeker of meaningful relationships - living in a new city it can be hard to find quality time with friends, and if relationships are not sought out and foundations are not laid, they just won’t develop. I want to continue to seek a meaningful relationship with my Creator and Savior, and seek how I can love my wife better. I want to seek out what the Lord has planned for my life - in the day to day, I want to listen, be bold, and seek to make a positive impact - in the long term, I want to listen, trust and be comfortable with uncertainty, and obey what the Lord has planned for me and my family.
“Ask, and it will be given to you. Seek, and you will find. Knock, and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” Matthew 7:7-8
The Hebrew word for “seek” in this verse means “search, quest, hunt for” - the connotation is that you have lost something important, like your child or your passport while abroad, and desperately need to find it. One who is constantly seeking is proactive, acts with a sense of urgency, and has habits and systems in place to prioritize what is important.
I also had a goal to read the 3rd and 4th Harry Potter books - so “seeker” is fitting 🤣
PS: Charis is 6 months old and I am emotional, how did that happen?? 🥲
