From Lab-Grown Rough to Neon Radiance
​There is something incredibly satisfying about watching a piece of Samarium YAG come to life on the laps. This lab-grown material is a favorite for precision faceting, not just for its intense, electric orange glow, but for its remarkable clarity and durability.
​The Journey:
​The Rough: Starting with a high-clarity boule fragment. The color is already intense, but the "fire" is still locked inside.
​The Process: Cutting YAG is a dream—it’s stable, lacks cleavage, and takes an incredible polish. Unfortunatley the doping agent in this batch caused gouging at the pre polish stage so i skipped it entirely. The challenge here is choosing a design that maximizes that "neon" saturation without losing the brilliance.
​The Reveal: Finished and off the dop! The final gem looks like it’s plugged into a battery. ⚡️
​Sm:YAG is primarily used in laser technology, but in the hands of a gem cutter, it becomes a wearable piece of science. 🧪✨
