Fat Chance Bicycles

Fat Chance Bicycles After nearly two decades out the bike building scene, Fat Chance is well and truly back in business with an updated version of the iconic Yo Eddy!

Chris Chance is back in the bike building business and resurrecting Fat Chance Bicycles. Because the Yo Eddy continues to be a favorite of so many riders around the world, the Yo Eddy Team Fat Chance will be the first frame to be produced. The first round of Yo Eddy frames will be available directly from Fat Chance and only through the Fat Chance KickStarter campaign. Your support will help fund t

he first run of Yo Eddy frames and bring Fat Chance Bicycles back. Fat City Cycles/Fat Chance was an American bicycle manufacturing company headquartered in Somerville, Massachusetts. Fat City Cycles was founded by Chris Chance in 1982 and was one of the early pioneers of mountain bikes. Fat Chance Bicycles were considered some of the best designed and manufactured bikes on market until the company was acquired in 1994. Owning a Yo Eddy is the pinnacle for most vintage mountain bike collectors and the value of these classic bikes continue to rise.

I've been prizing this frame for almost 20 years since I got it back from my friend and customer Ron who passed away in 2003. Now it’s time for a new owner to prize this frame. I built precious few of these with all the cool options back in those days. This one has them all.
It’s a gem of a bike.
Built and painted by Chris Chance in 1979
Original paint (Imron with some nicks)
Hand-cut sterling silver stars (on fork crown) and sterling silver head badge. All soldered to the frame
GP Wilson investment cast 17/4 PH Stainless Steel dropouts (Super Strong) front & rear
All cable guides (including under BB & on chainstay) are hand-made by Chris from stainless steel tubing
Henry James lugs, BB & fork crown all silver brazed. Stars hand-cut into the lugs and painted a contrasting color
Size 21" (533mm)
Road frame geometry (more specs can be available)
Combo of Reynolds & Columbus tubing
Comes with the original Campagnolo BB and front derailleur and an Edco headset
The price is $2500
A new frame ordered today would cost over $3,000 with that paint, never mind all the hand-cut sterling and stars.

We're going the the MADE.bike Show in Portland this weekend! Come see the cool bikes we've been building. More pics will be coming.
This pic is of a Titanium Slim Chance with all internal cable routing (Look Ma! No Cables!) And a SRAM AXS Kit. And a cool paint job with Grello to Aqua Marine Blue Fade. Definitely a drool worthy bike.
Come see it in person, talk with Chris and see the t-shirts we have for sale.

Here is a bike that I put more work into than I have on any bike in a long time. Lots of figuring the best way to accomplish what the customer wanted.

My first frame with a Ritchey-style split seat tube took some time to precisely place the tubes and all the pieces around the slot and then to set up the slotting of it. UDH dropouts are still a new thing around here. New tooling required most every step of the way. This is the first Z-Coupler I have done. I’ll look forward to doing more bikes with them.
For all the extra time I put into it, I am gratified to know we have another Fat Fan riding around with a huge grin on their face. Woohoo!
You can check out his experience of working with me on the details of his frame and his experience riding and packing it on his musings in the links above.

Single Speed frames are not just for the hard core (but there’s nothing else like ‘em when you can make the commitment to only one gear). These sliding dropouts offer a range of options, for brake mounts and derailleur hangers. Like the SRAM T-Type UDH. See what’s available here: https://www.paragonmachineworks.com/hangers-inserts/inserts/sliding.html

The New Titanium Slim Chance Road Frame
It's been a looong time since we made a Slim Chance in Ti. We are so excited to present you our latest creation. For this customer, we made him happy with an extra long head tube and the option for Di2 or mechanical derailleur cable routing. I want it!
