Our Story

The business started in 2009 as Brown Kat Kreations. Originally, it was my jewelry creations and my sister’s leather work. We had both experienced some devastating blows personally in 2008 and we turned to crafting to get us through. Friends and family encouraged us to make our crafts into a business. So we attempted it! We started by doing a few craft shows and quickly realized that it wasn’t for us.

Turning again to friends and family for support, we started a website and a page. The world wide web is huge and we got very lost in it. We wanted to focus on creating and not web site upkeep.

Through the years, we have had our share of changes. When we started the business, we lived only a few hours from each other, so it was easy to work together maintaining the business. In 2015, I decided to move across the country. Lynda was mainly doing her leather work on a custom order basis and I was still trying to branch out with my jewelry creations. Once I moved and got settled in, we quickly realized it was time to revamp the business. I split off and changed the name to Brown Cat Jewelry.

In my new home, I again tried the craft show/market venue. Working a full time job with late hours made me realize that it wasn’t going to work. The following day I was having lunch with a couple of my girlfriends and we were discussing the show. One of them suggested I try retail. We stopped at a local shop to shop and my girlfriend started talking to the owner. The next thing I knew, I was showing her my work and signing a contract to consign in her store!
