n.e.designs strives to make pieces that are one of a kind, whether in material, ring size, weave pattern, patina and/or clasp design. Each of my pieces are handmade, which involves an intricate weaving process of joining rings together one at a time in complex patterns, known as maille. Historically, maille is the ancient art of weaving that centuries ago was used to create body armor for soldiers
. Although my jewelry creations are not meant for war, but rather love, peace and joy, the durability of these metals and weaving process still holds true today as it did in centuries past. In addition to the unique weaving process, I also embellish some pieces by using Vintage, Limited and/or One of a Kind Clasps to create a unique focal point, while in others, I let the beauty of the intricate twists and turns of the precious metal and complex patterns stand-alone. In designing a piece, I also may choose to apply a patina to the silver rings, which will bring out even more detail of the finished piece to the eye. Basically, applying a patina involves an oxidation process where various chemicals are applied directly to the silver, and then each piece is carefully buffed by hand with very fine steel wool. Lastly, all of my jewelry is finished off to a high luster and shine using a rotary tumbler and stainless steel shot. While this ancient art form may require considerable focus and time, the initial creative process and end result are without reservation, a true labor of love from n.e.designs to you.
