Fused Glass Jewelry: By Jamie http://www.etsy.com/shop/jamiewhite88 My glass Jewelry is made using dichroic glass. copper, silver, titanium, etc.) on its’ surface.

Dichroic glass is glass, typically clear or black, which has a thin film of quartz crystal and metal oxides (e.g. To create this film metal oxides are heated in a vacuum chamber using a high voltage electron beam until they are vaporized and deposited on the surface of the glass. The glass may be coated multiple times (e.g. 15-45). The thickness, no more then 35 millionth of an inch, contributes t

o the beautiful colors we see. The coatings act as an optical filter which manipulates light. The colors we see are generated when light strikes the glass and is reflected from it. You see the transmitted color when looking through the piece and the reflected color when holding the piece at an angle. Shifting a piece even slightly changes the color you see. This iridescent quality is very difficult to photograph or explain. To fully appreciate its’ beauty you have to see it in person. :-)

I’m excited to share that pre-orders of our new book, Vitrigraph Design Basics and Beyond, is now available. We are officially launching the book next month in Vegas!

PRE-SALE!!! Order your copy before everyone else to receive it first! Digital copies will be sent on Tuesday, April 21.

Vitrigraph opens the door to endless creative possibilities in kiln-formed glass—but knowing how glass flows, stacks, and transforms during a pull is the key to turning molten glass into intentional design.

Vitrigraph Design Basics and Beyond is a practical guide for glass artists who want to move from simple pulls to thoughtfully designed cane, stringers, and murrini. This book walks through the foundational concepts of vitrigraph, including pot preparation, pull plates, safety, and glass flow, before progressing into more advanced design strategies used to create detailed patterns.

Inside, you’ll learn how to design and pull:
Concentric circle canes
Twisted cane and stringer designs
Pattern-pot murrini with controlled detail
Leaves, flowers, and natural elements
Rainbow, woodgrain, and decorative patterns
Custom pull-plate designs
The book also introduces the concept of “recipe cards,” providing clear diagrams, color references for Bullseye (COE 90) and Oceanside (COE 96) glass, and layer-by-layer stacking instructions that make even complex designs approachable.

Whether you’re new to vitrigraph or ready to expand your design vocabulary, this guide will help you understand how glass moves—and how to use that movement to create consistent, repeatable, and beautiful results.

Packed with techniques, layouts, and practical tips from years of experimentation, Vitrigraph Design Basics and Beyond will help you turn creative ideas into stunning glass cane and murrini.
