Sunday Staff Picks are back and this week it’s our favorite slabs. Slabs can be used as decor or for making cabochon jewelry.

Today’s picks are:

Dylan: Agate chime
Dale: Tiffany Stone
Rae: Rainbow Fluorite
Josh: Prehenite Pair

Slabs are mainly at our Johnson Street location. Our lapidary is able to cut these to make something to set into jewelry or polish a side for display.

New ancient roman glass jewelry is available at Burnie's Rock Shop! These fragments are from glass vessels that were created by the Roman Byzantine Empire between the 1st and 6th centuries AD. The patina of the glass is formed over hundreds of years in the soil combined with weathering. We have many unique necklaces, earrings, brooches, and more available at both Johnson St. and Park St. Stop by to check out our selection!

Jewelry in images is from our Johnson St. location.

We wanted to show you the different types of opals we carry at Burnie’s on Johnson. Opal occurs in stone, wood, bone and shell when silica rich groundwater fills in spaces and solidifies into silicate spheres that reflect light. Opal is a softer stone that doesn’t like to get wet as it may dull the fire. Even though it needs delicate care it is one of the most beautiful stones out there!

We wanted to share a little tutorial on how to use self starting charcoal with our resin incense. Make sure you are using fire safe surfaces and vessels. We just reordered from this company and will have new exciting scents in soon. Resin incense burns cleaner than traditional stick incense.
