You landed here, hopefully, because you’re interested in handmade vintage and boho style jewelry. By here, I mean right here in my basement workshop located in Charlestown, Indiana. So how did I come to make vintage and boho style jewelry? It started with me looking for something to supplement the family income while staying home to raise my girls. I grew up in a family of artistic people and it c
reated a passion for artistry of all kinds from early childhood. One of my earliest memories as a child is sitting in the car in downtown Louisville, Kentucky and crying as the wrecking balls knocked down the beautiful old Victorian-era buildings in front of my eyes. I studied architecture for a while but found the math (wow, who knew art meant doing math?) too daunting. I like to say I know just enough about architecture to be dangerous. Then I took a class on jewelry making. I was hooked! Here was a way for me to express myself and it involved very little math. I got to stay home with my girls, Ariel and Ashley. Quickly, I realized that selling the supplies that jewelry artists use was far more lucrative, and as I had a growing family to feed, I took a detour for awhile into selling supplies. As my girls grew up, I looked around and realized that I wasn’t really enjoying what I was doing, so I sold the jewelry supply business and went back to what I really enjoyed; making jewelry. Thus, Fairy Unique Jewelry was born. So, where did the name come from? I've loved fairies from the time I was introduced to Tinker Bell as a child. They were beautiful, tiny, and they could fly! What could be cooler? I was already using fairies in the logo from my supply business so carrying the theme seemed appropriate and I liked the play on words, Fairy Unique Jewelry. I wanted to emphasize that my designs were unique, one of a kind. Where do I get my inspiration? I draw a lot of inspiration from steampunk, nature and femininity and of course fairies, but overall, I just let the components speak to me. It just pours out of me. I’m excited to introduce you to my creations.
