🟠 Crispy Filipino Kwek-Kwek 🇵🇭

Make this iconic Filipino street food at home — crunchy orange coating on the outside, soft quail egg inside!

🥚 Ingredients:

• 24 quail eggs
• 1 cup all-purpose flour
• 3 tbsp cornstarch
• 1 tsp baking powder
• 1 tsp salt
• ½ tsp black pepper
• ¾–1 cup water (adjust for thick batter)
• Orange food coloring or annatto powder
• Cooking oil for deep frying

🌶 Sauce:

• ½ cup vinegar
• 2 tbsp soy sauce
• 2 tbsp brown sugar
• 1 small red onion, finely chopped
• Chili (optional)



🔥 Instructions:

1️⃣ Boil quail eggs for 4–5 minutes. Transfer to cold water and peel carefully.

2️⃣ In a bowl, mix flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, and pepper. Slowly add water until batter is smooth and thick. Add orange coloring until bright orange.

3️⃣ Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Make sure oil is deep enough to submerge eggs.

4️⃣ Dip each egg into batter, fully coating it. Fry for 3–4 minutes until crispy and golden orange. Turn occasionally for even cooking.

5️⃣ Remove and drain on paper towels. Serve hot with sweet and spicy vinegar sauce.

Crispy outside. Soft inside. Perfect merienda! 😋🔥
