Anil is the eldest grandson of Shikharchand Chodhry, founder of Orient Pearl and La Perle D' Orient. His extensive knowledge in gemstones, precious stones, pearls, pearl farming, and jewelry making has turned heads as he comes up inspiring new designs with gem quality pearls. He started his career working initially for a diamond company in Bombay, from where he moved to Japan for three years working for a pearl company. He then moved to Vietnam to setup a pearl farm and after two years decided to further his extensive knowledge by studying at the prestigious gemological school of GIA in Calsbad, California. Baggins boasts a large and varied inventory of every kind of pearl, from elegant Japanese Akoya and dazzling South Sea to the magical glow of Tahitian pearls. For more than ten years, Baggins has been one of the largest pearl companies in the United States with a key philosophy of serving and educating our customers to the best of our ability, in order to develop long-term, successful relationships.

Keshi pearls are small non-nucleated pearls typically formed as by-products of pearl cultivation. The word keshi comes from keshinomi, the Japanese word for poppy seed, it is used in Japan for all pearls that grew without a nucleus. Today, Keshi pearls are found in all kinds of pearls from Akoya, Tahitian to South Seas.

What makes Keshi pearls valuable?

Keshis are all natural because there is no nucleus inside – meaning the Keshi pearl is completely nacre. Because nacre is a precious material, Keshi pearls are highly prized. Since Keshi pearls usually have an amazing luster to them, their organic shape appeals to designer and pearl lovers. They stand out and catch the eye with their natural shapes and are featured in all different types of jewelry design. Pearl lovers appreciate and value Keshi more than any other pearl. This darker variety of South Sea pearls are cultured mostly on the beautiful islands of Tahiti in French Polynesia. They come in a wide spectrum of iridescent and beautiful colors, ranging from light to very dark gray, but also “Fancy Colors” like peacock, green, aubergine, blue, brown, pistachio and lavender. We also select high quality vivid color ones, match the luster, arrange them by size and sometimes mix with other Pearls to create beautiful “Multicolor” & “Mixed” Pearl strands.
