Many people know my dad, Dwight Roberts, for his groundbreaking career as one of the pioneers of modern special effects and animatronics. His work helped shape the industry we know today and brought countless creatures and characters to life on the big screen.
But what many people don’t know is that he was also an extraordinary sculptor and artist.
Growing up, I had the privilege of watching him create in ways that still amaze me. He taught me metalsmithing, lost-wax casting, chase and repoussé, and most importantly, he taught me how to truly see beauty in the world around us.
His sculptures were unlike anything I’ve ever seen. He would combine precious metals, high quality minerals, crystals, fossils, and natural elements into otherworldly works of art. Every piece was meticulously handcrafted and inspired by his love of nature, history, storytelling, and adventure.
He didn’t just make art.
He brought imagination to life.
Over the coming weeks, I’ll be sharing some of his sculptures, behind-the-scenes photos, and parts of his creative process because I truly believe his artwork deserves to be seen and celebrated just as much as the films he helped create.
Everything I know as an artist began with him. Every piece I make carries a little bit of what he taught me, and I will forever be grateful for the countless hours he spent encouraging me, teaching me, and believing in me.
Right now, our family is walking through one of the hardest seasons of our lives as my dad battles cancer. If you’d like to read more about his incredible life or support our family during this time

Thank you for taking the time to celebrate not only the artist the world knew, but the father, teacher, and mentor I have always known.
