A UFO inside a diamond? This 3.03-carat Fancy Deep Brownish Orangy Yellow diamond has a tiny feather on its table. When you look into the pavilion of the diamond, that feather—and its reflection—creates a shape that looks like a tiny UFO flying across the sun.

Feathers—fissures or cracks—often affect a diamond’s clarity; this diamond was graded SI1 because of its feathers and etch channels. Its star-like color zoning can impact its color grade too. But the combo of this inclusion and dramatic color pattern are what makes this photomicrograph unforgettable!
