Finished this sterling silver and garnet pendant last night🌸🍃
Curious about the process?
With the price of silver rising, I’ve been coming up with unique ways to repurpose scrap silver and give it a new life! I’ve been collecting little bits of silver from every cut of sheet and wire, even the dust from sawing. When heating silver with a torch, silver will melt then form uniform ball shapes. I discovered that if I pull my torch just a second early, it will create smooth blobs in the shape of whatever the scrap first looked like. For instance, a triangular piece of sheet metal will form into a rounded, smaller triangle with smooth edges. I started arranging all of the unique organic shapes, and the creativity started flowing! I love the clean look of a shadowbox design, and the way the blobs were arranged reminded me of the ripples in water. So then I completed the earthy look with a hand-sawn and textured flower and leaf, completed with a tiny 3mm garnet for a splash of color.
I love how it turned out! Timeless and elegant, yet simple and unique. I’m hoping to make more of this design. I’m thinking the next one will have a little water lily and a lily pad instead! 🪷 What do you think?
This piece will be available to purchase at my next Market on Market show in La Crosse on Aug 10, and my website shortly after.
