My Healthy Journey

There was a time where I would choose products for myself and my family solely based on packaging looks, smell and all the fabulous things the label boasted it could do for me. That is, until one day a friend informed me that my product choices contained ingredients that were harmful to me. I told her, “No, the label says it’s safe and has been tested.” She challenged me to prove her wrong. I mean after all I didn’t buy cheap items. I invested good money into buying the “good stuff.” I took that challenge. I was confident that I was going to prove her wrong and make her look silly. Armed with my trusty laptop, I dove into researching each unpronounceable ingredient listed on my products one by one. What I found were things like, hormone disruptor, may cause cancer, unsafe for the environment, and on and on.

I lost that challenge? Yes, but not really. I wouldn’t say I was defeated in my quest, I found myself newly empowered with knowledge. The knowledge of what those ingredients really are and whether I want it entering my body. I mean most of us read the ingredients on our food labels at the grocery store right? We read our food labels and choose what we feel is best for our families. How many of us can say we do the same on our personal care products and cleaning supplies? Most of us don’t because it’s a language of chemical and scientific names most of us are not taught. Nor are we taught how loosely a manufacturer can legally use buzz words like natural, pure, and clean etc. It’s an industry that really isn’t regulated. That’s the shocker to most people. We think that our product choice is safe for us because someone must be regulating those ingredients. But sadly that really isn’t so. We must take it upon ourselves to become educated on ingredients so that we can be confident that we made the best decision for ourselves and our families.

This is my mission, empower you with that knowledge. I love my friend dearly for challenging me all those years ago. She gave me the power to confidently choose for myself what was good for me and my family and not be haphazard about my personal care products. And this is what I want for you too!
