My mom had me when she was 19. At the time, she was facing addiction, a toxic relationship, & pain that had followed her from childhood.
In the midst of barely surviving she did her best to care for me in the way she knew how.
As a child, I didn’t fully understand it. All I knew was that life felt CRAZY & really unsafe.
Now as a woman, I understand it differently.
Watching my mom fight to survive shaped how I see womanhood. It showed me how much women can carry while still trying to love, nurture, & keep going.
I think women go through so much day in & day out. We carry pain, responsibility, shame, expectations & often still show up for everyone around us.
Many of us were taught that being strong meant enduring EVERYTHING.
I truly believe that womanhood was never meant to be about barely surviving. I believe safety, softness, & being supported should be a part of every woman’s story. This what Bare Culture is about.
My mom’s survival, strength, and everything she endured shaped so much of how I move through womanhood & ultimately Bare Culture.
