The part you don't see: the cleaning. Jewelry gets dirty from your body oils, sprays, and the environment. You can clean most jewelry with gentle dish soap and a baby toothbrush. I do not recommend submerging any old rhinestones in water as it could loosen glue. Just a damp toothbrush can clean those. Real gold, silver, and precious stones deserve more special treatment.

The life of a designer with ADD: too many thoughts of what to design next, out of sight out of mind (did I forget I had these pieces, yes), time blindness, piles, and super-focus are what I work through. Night time is when I work best.

Back to the jewelry department as I have upcoming markets that are my designs only (artist markets).

I made one necklace tonight and determined it wouldn't work. I picked up another necklace I put aside about 6 months ago, re-thinking the design and now I love it.

It be like that sometimes. What are you working through?

Research matters. I am always learning and provide my research when I can. When you invest in a piece, you are trusting the seller to provide accurate and honest information.

This antique necklace has Neiger attributes: green glass "faux jade" speckled beads with antique end caps, the barrel bead shape, the ornate stamped back, the fold-over hook clasp that is shaped to go with the curve of the piece, the hidden safety chain that dangles, the bezel pieces. The Neiger brothers produced unsigned pieces in Czechoslovakia in the 1920s-30s. They used components from local artisans to make Egyptian Revival and Chinoiserie motif pieces among others.

Unfortunately the Neiger brothers were captured and killed during the Holocaust. Their work lives on many years later, a testament to their beautiful craft.
