As an embroiderer, I am user of embroidery hoops which help the stitcher keep a tension on the material so that the stitches lie flat and smooth. As an artist, I love these hoops as they are circles of many sizes. This sculpture exemplifies many of the things I love to touch on when making art; shapes, multiples, shadows and the use of materials that are often overlooked as things of value.
Hours and hours of thought went into this sculpture. Each hoop was placed, shifted and replaced as intersections and divisions were considered. The shadows are a vital part of this piece.
Wooden Hoops, Espaliered, by Tracey Meyer, is available online and is on the wall this month at the gallery. Love those shadows!
