Shelley Duvall In possibly the most gorgeous photo ever taken of her from Hal (Ashby’s) Collection of 13 spectacular star photographs Jack Nicholson had given Hal. The photographer was a French Director that lived with Jack in the 70’s-80’s - I have to find his name… and possibly reveal the other 12 extraordinary photos. Sad to see Shelley is gone.

“VIEW FROM HUT” painted in 1890. Imagine THIS amount of shade from one breadfruit tree. Ancient Hawaiian breadfruit groves were so large that some were capable of sustaining around 75,000 people! For hundreds of years BEFORE western contact with Hawai'i this fruit tree, called ‘ulu, was a large part of the cultural and spiritual life of ancient Hawaiians, predates even the Lahaina banyon tree.

A Hawaiian proverb: “Halau Lahaina malu i ka ulu” says “Lahaina is like a large house shaded by breadfruit trees.”
In addition to being the "Venice of the Pacific," the people of Lahaina were also very much supported by its breadfruit trees, many of which have been cut down and burned to the horror of the Hawaiians for development or historic sugarcane farming. One of the vital parts of the restoration effort for Lahaina is reforesting with breadfruit trees. It can be a challenge to propagate these, however:
“Hawaiian 'ulu doesn't have seeds and the only way to promote new growth is by the hehu or the ka, or the root suckers that are promoted from the lateral root system,” Hokuao Pellegrino explained. "When pavement goes right up to the trunk, that becomes a challenge to propagate new baby trees from the surviving breadfruit trees in Lahaina."

There is HOPE since the fire:
“The asphalt's been peeled back off of these trees so that we can get water down in there and also get the microbiology back in on these trees. We're also hoping that maybe the asphalt saved some of the soil substrate. There might be a silver lining to that, but we just don't know. The ones that were less intensely impacted will more than likely survive. But it could take years before we actually see fruit on those trees,” Sparkman said. Students and professionals are doing their best to help these trees survive and ultimately flourish… That is our dream.

Please join us in setting your intentions, prayers, and dreams towards helping the Hawaiian people, with getting back their water rights and trees and the land be restored.
Let’s go for the silver lining to this massive loss on every level... help us IMAGINE these life giving trees can come back… we start by “dreaming” it.

“LAHAINA was once considered the VENICE OF THE PACIFIC”, says Denby Fawcett.

What many people don’t know is that Lahaina was once a thriving wetland, which has become desertified by inappropriate use of its water for luxury accommodations.

Lahaina, which means “merciless sun” in Hawaiian, then was cooled by irrigation canals, some wide and deep enough to be traversed by canoes, and spring-fed wetland ponds. Shading the waterways were massive groves of ulu, large canopy breadfruit trees that stretched as far as Olowalu.

“It is too early to focus on rebuilding, but cultural advocates already see an opportunity to return to a Lahaina of the past.” - Denby Fawcett,

What many people don’t know is that Lahaina was once a thriving wetland, which has become desertified by inappropriate use of its water for luxury accommodations.

As he writes in the article, “Lahaina was once considered the Venice of the Pacific. It was a living, viable place.”
The article continues on to say:
Lahaina, which means “merciless sun” in Hawaiian, then was cooled by irrigation canals, some wide and deep enough to be traversed by canoes, and spring-fed wetland ponds. Shading the waterways were massive groves of ulu, large canopy breadfruit trees that stretched as far as Olowalu.

A Hawaiian proverb: “Halau Lahaina malu i ka ulu” says “Lahaina is like a large house shaded by breadfruit trees.”
Free flowing water abounded,” said Kepā Maly, a cultural ethnographer.

Maly says a registered title map shows as late as 1884 the stream system coming from the West Maui mountains spread water across what today is a burned wasteland.

The devastating wildfires not only destroyed homes– it wiped out thousands of original works of art and a hub for the art community.

Artists are grieving the loss of their life’s work, but many said they plan to stay in Lahaina to help rebuild.

“I was actually able to see my space, which was kind of closure for me,” gallery owner Bill Wyland of said.  “Being able to take some photos of the art that was still there coming through the, coming through the depths.”

“Oh, I’m going to rebuild,” artist Earl Thompson said. “Yeah, I lost everything there. But that’s where I want to be. I’m starting with a fresh canvas.”

In support of our Maui community on the other side of these wildfire disasters, we want to highlight the artist who has been creating gorgeous works of art of our precious island for decades and lost 49 years of work in the Lahaina fires.
You can both remember beautiful West Maui as it was and support her art by purchasing a print at DariceMichel.com ❤️
Thank you for all the support, love and prayers for Maui!

Mother Maui knows how to come out anew…

We are putting all efforts towards caring for this magnificent land and its people to find peace, and to become what it is to become… What it was always meant to be… and was.

A self-sufficient Eco Marvel, that takes care of it’s now homeless and supports the psychological healing mandatory for the deep grieving Hawaiians and citizens.

Please help us dream dreamers awake… We (from around the world) need YOUR help and imagination to dream BIG that beauty & goodness can lead the way as truth is uncovered to ”right” very old wrongs. To bring peace as we are understanding the Ancient wisdom, we aim to bring balance & harmony to the “heart” of the planet, Maui & the islands of Hawai’i🔮🏝️

Finally I can post again… post fire.
It is nearly impossible to express what it is like being on our beautiful Mother Maui at this time… I cannot possibly go back to doing posts about my “evoluting through love” cuff or my business.

PRIORITIES made an ”in the moment” instantaneous powerful shift being here, on the other side of the island, the wet side, and knowing what was happening live on our gorgeous Maui on the other.

Getting calls, friends having to evacuate & coming to stay with us in the middle of the night, and the stories began… this instantly created a network of communication through the community that was massively impressive. The Aloha spirit rose from the ashes immediately & created a resonance, a dramatic energy change… where being “in the moment” commanded a jump shift in consciousness & we rode THAT wave as it happened.

Everyone I know, and who I am meeting now has risen to this occasion in their own way.
As I am re-creating how I want to serve on Instagram, I begin with my POV to the beauty of the the Hawaiian people & the great honor of beginning to understand the sacredness of this island in a new profound way.

I have found, MOST important at this time is to be present, listen, pray, help heal the extraordinary soul and beauty of the Hawaiian Nation, and all its people and the land they are from, Maui and ALL of Hawaii. In whatever form one can, please participate. Literally - if you meditate, do yoga, prayer of any religion, or while celebrating anything, BE CREATIVE... we ask please, if you can take a moment of that time to send a beautiful prayer for Maui… We are aiming to “grab that energy” and create from the consciousness and love that is flowing over the waters our way.

I am grateful to have lived here almost 20 years and have the opportunity to see the world and what is "coming together", not just falling apart...
as I see it

The depth of sacred goodness that is emanating from the people of the Hawaiian Nation and their exceptional culture needs to be felt at the root level and understood… for THESE are the people that have been hurt the most.

Of all the pain that we are feeling as residents of Maui, for me what is the most deep rooted, sacred suffering of all… is of the Hawaiian people who have been living in Lahaina, never selling their homes, generation after generation, not being caught up in selling their land, but choosing to have family security for their land & home for every generation… true love of family.

These beautiful people are now homeless. 💔
This torturous pain is actually reflected in the possible loss of our Banyon Tree, 150 years old and the oldest Banyon on the planet. THIS becomes the metaphor to the significance of - the Sacred Banyon Tree burning out the pain at the root level of the original problem.

My heart goes to the Hawaiian people for all the wrongs that have happened over time. This is a chance to somehow right very deep wrongs.

That is what needs to happen now… true consciousness and coming back and giving to the Hawaiian people FIRST, the ones who have lost the most.

We are researching the place for donations where EVERY penny will go to the Hawaiian people.
