Elaria’s Tear
A legend carried in stone and silver
In the heart of an ancient forest where even the wind speaks in hushed tones, there lies a spring untouched by time. Its waters shimmer with a light all their own, said to mirror the soul of any who gaze upon them. This sacred place is the domain of Elaria—a naiad not of song and play, but of silence and sorrow.
Elaria was different from her kin. Where others brought joy and mischief, she offered reflection and peace. Her spring became a haven for the weary of heart—wanderers burdened by grief, those lost in memory, or aching from love unfulfilled. She listened, never speaking, and those who poured their hearts into the water often left changed, their pain softened by her quiet presence.
One night, a man came to the spring—a craftsman, once a great artificer, now hollowed by a curse. He had lost the memory of the one he loved most. Not just her face or her name, but the feeling of her, the warmth, the weight of her presence. He had searched the world, not to find her, but to remember what he had lost.
Elaria listened to his story, and for the first time in many lifetimes, her own heart stirred. She did not know the woman he spoke of, but in his grief, she saw a reflection of her own—an ancient ache, long buried and quietly endured.
A single tear slipped from her eye and fell into the man’s open palm. As it touched his skin, it solidified—cool and smooth, veined with soft blue chalcedony, pink calcite, and a single bloom of red deep within. It was the essence of the spring, of Elaria herself: calm, compassionate, and touched with the ache of memory.
The man carried it with him until the end of his days. Whether it returned his memories, no one knows. But those who met him said he smiled often, though his eyes always held something far away—like someone who had remembered something too beautiful to speak aloud.
Now, the tear has resurfaced, wrapped in copper and care. To wear it is to carry a fragment of Elaria’s gift: a token of empathy, healing, and the enduring strength of love that refuses to be forgotten.
