Mustang Mill- A Sand Wash Basin Mustang's Big Adventure

Mustang Mill- A Sand Wash Basin Mustang's Big Adventure Mille is a 3 y/o mustang from the Sand Wash Basin HMA-CO. He was rounded up last Fall and after pro

Mille is a beautiful stallion (now gelding) born to stunning band stallion Haze and beautiful mare White Sage. Mille's grandsire and granddame are pretty legendary themselves, Lightening and Yarrow. Mille was born in the Spring of 2014 and lived his life wild and free with his native band until late Fall of 2016, when he and his full sibling, Cheveyo were taken from their home via a bait and trap

gather. Mille and his brother were sent with 40+ other Sand Wash horses to holding facilities where they were processed (gelded and branded). Mille was then sent to GEMS (The Great Escape Mustang Sanctuary) where he successfully completed the TIP (Trainer Incentive Program) program and has now been adopted to Angela Rumbaugh. Angela has been photographing the Sand Wash horses since 2015 and so adopting a mustang from this herd has some very sentimental meaning. This page is to document his journey from living wild to domestication. He will live the remainder of his life with Angela and 3 new band members, Apollo, Lucky & Thunder. We hope you enjoy his adventure, it's going to be a fun one!

Mill had his teeth done for the first time, he hasn’t needed them done until this year! He did wonderful and it was all just routine, (slight sharpness in areas) nothing major.

This sums up life with Mill, I think he is happiest as a darker grey 😂! I love this boy so much and thought I better give an update, as you can see, we don’t like to stay clean! We have a few ponds in the big pasture, one is a very shallow run off with some mud that is good for covering the entire body 🤦‍♀️. He was quite proud of his successful rolls yesterday LOL. Finally getting some good weather here and my next post will be of Mill and I on the the trails 🤗!! We are so ready to get some ride time in!! He will be 6 this year and he has grown to be such a big boy, I have not measured him but he is at least 15’3h and just solid! I’m glad I waited to do much riding until now, he has done a lot of growing and filling out. This year marks 4 years together for us 😳, how has it been that long? He is the sweetest and would do anything for me ❤️.

And today!!!! 🙌. Big day for Mill and I! I FINALLY trotted on him ❤️. We are one step closer to hitting the trails, so proud of him!! Still working on forward movement and steering but we will get there!! My friend Collin Curry helped me out today, I wanted Mill to be on lead line the first time I trotted on him...silly me...it was no big deal 🥰!

Forgot to post from a few weeks ago. After I walked over and sat behind Mill, I started rubbing his neck and he just dropped and went to sleep (second video) ❤️❤️.

What a wonderful day and much needed! ❤️ Took Mill to the trails to see how he would do. He has not been anywhere really since last Spring. I am getting much closer to feeling like I can get on him and ride the trails, especially after today! I want to do a few more things, but it is going to happen soon! He is really, just a fantastic and sweet boy. I met my bestie, as hard as it was we did practice social distancing! There were a few others out too! Mill had ZERO problem with Kristi and Cash and was not even phased that Kristi was on Cash. He is still very uncertain of 'other' horses and especially ones with riders, BUT, he is SOOO much better!! 🦄😍

Mill went on his first ‘trail ride’ tonight!! He has never, in his life, been on a trail in the woods and he did amazing! 😍🦄! Will post video tomorrow!! No, I was not on him, but I am still pleased with the progress! He seems to have conquered his fear of people on horses IF they are traveling with us, even riding behind us, passing and also riding back towards us!! Woohoo, this is BIG!! Still having issues with horses with riders who are not with us. I was happy to get to meet a couple riders on the trail coming at us, GREAT practice! He just needs more exposure!! This boy though 😍, he gives me 110%, always!! Thanks to my bestie Kristi Storjohann Petersen for going with us 😘💕.
