Every screw in a 1776 Atelier movement is made in-house, combining the accuracy and precision possible with modern manufacturing techniques with the traditional hand finishing of watchmaking.

Each screw is cut on our Citizen Swiss lathes, machines built for producing extremely small, highly precise components. From there, the work moves to the watchmaker’s bench, where every screw is finished individually by hand and polished on a tin plate with diamond paste to achieve its final mirror finish.

Modern precision, traditional technique, all in the hands of the watchmaker.

Solarization grinding, done manually.

For our ratchet and crown wheels, we use a specialized seventy year old lathe sourced from Glashütte and dedicated specifically to this process. The cross slide is fairly unique with manual levers and has been permanently modified for this kind of decoration with a specialized offset grinding setup and purpose-shaped grinding collets that hold each wheel at exactly the angle we want.

The manual levers let you feel the vibration of the abrasive cutting the metal through your hands, so pressure is controlled by feel rather than simply feeding the tool mechanically. With experience, you can feel when the cut is right.

What we are looking for is a very clean separation between each band of solarization without creating a pronounced ridge between them. The surface should still have a high luster, with no burn marks, so each band catches the light independently as the wheel moves.

It is a small detail, but it is one of those finishes where the difference is immediately visible when it is done properly.

This is how anglage is supposed to be done. By hand, with files, emery sticks and gentian wood.

On the dial side of Liberty 250 alone, we finish 62 internal angles this way. Across the entire movement, there are 222.

Some haute horlogerie movements are celebrated for having a dozen. We wanted to see how far we could push it.

Tantalum, at the beginning of a long and unforgiving manufacturing process. These pieces are still far from their final form, with most of the precision machining and finishing yet to come. It is one of the most brutal materials to machine and finish. We have accepted the challenge and every case is being produced entirely in-house at our Ohio facility.

Due to overwhelming demand, every planned Mount Vernon allocation has now been fully allocated.

Mount Vernon was created around a simple idea: to offer a genuinely high level of watchmaking, movement finishing, and detail at a price that remained accessible to a wider group of collectors. The response has exceeded anything we anticipated.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who placed their trust in us and chose to make Mount Vernon part of their collection.

Although no additional production is currently planned, we have opened a waitlist on our website. It will be maintained in the event that an allocation becomes available. Any such opportunity will be offered in the order the waitlist was joined, with first right of refusal.
