The Leather Peacock

The Leather Peacock Tanya Freedman is a leather artist and educator with over 10 years of art show experience and 4 years teaching at conventions.

I love demonstrating the versatility of leather through carving, construction, and hands-on, usable projects. I am a stay at home mom that uses my crafting time not only to produce wonderful pieces, but to also feel like Tanya and not just "Mom". I won a basic Leather Starter Kit from a drawing and then took classes to "learn" how to use the tools. I found the more I was crafting, the more I loved

leather work. Now, I am sharing my pieces to sell so I can support my crafting hobby to be able to create more. My Favorite materials:

More steps to the Leather Peacock. Tail is all on the harness and mock-up of overcoat is complete. So we were able to make more design decisions. I am waiting on fabric to arrive to make the final overcoat. In the meantime, taking one daughter to college this weekend and then making more leather pieces to be added to the overcoat and hairpiece.

Wrap up for MiAnime. Braely (my youngest) was my helper this time (and support from my sister and niece). 5 workshops and introduced leather craft to more than 25 people. We both had time to join a Worbala class to make feathers…. Surprisingly, I made a Peacock feather 😉. My niece may have become hooked on leatherwork after making 3 of the projects, and she is 10! Leatherwork is possible and many ages… I think Braely started when she was 6! I just love sharing the craft! I have a couple weeks “off”, but will be getting ready for the crazy and of the month and into DragonCon beginning of September. So much fun coming my way!

I just signed up to teach Folding dice tray and drawstring (coin and dice) bag workshops at a new gaming convention in Michigan MRGE. On Saturday, Aug 29 in Kalamazoo!

The event includes a free play room with classic video games, trading card tournaments and live Dungeons and Dragons sessions for beginners.

This is the first year I taught at Dokidokon! My workshops were a hit! I had people lined up to come in! It was amazing. I love when people love to take a chance and try their hands at leatherwork! Dokidokon has a couple really cool things that make them different than other conventions I have been to - Volfgang Twins and Harp Twins - electric harps with drummers playing rock and Viking tribal type music. Amazing!!!! Definitely check them out. The other cool thing at this convention are Team Event Challenges. All weekend long there are team doing many challenges to be the crowing winners. Fun running theme through the weekend. Fun times and I will be back!
