HOW TO CARE FOR YOUR SILVER
While silver does have a lot of enemies, there are things you can do to help protect it and care for it once it does tarnish, because it will.
Store in a dry place. Something as easy as a plastic bag that seals tightly can help. Just make sure there is no moisture in the bag or the piece(es) you’re placing inside. If you’ve got a food sealing system for vacuum packing, that works best.
Save and reuse those silica gel packs that come inside various types of packaging. They are made to collect moisture and—just like it keeps moisture out of your new handbag or shoes—it will absorb the moisture helping to minimize tarnishing your silver jewelry. Chalk also has the same effect but isn’t as neat.
When you need to spruce up your silver, you can use a small amount of light dish soap and warm water. Make sure to dry the jewelry very well after cleaning. You can even use a hair dryer, but be careful, metal heats fast. It shouldn’t take more than a few seconds to dry. Or, you can simply pat it dry with a soft cloth.
