The line between endings and beginnings is blurry. Next week, I am going back to school to begin an MBA program. In order to make room for something so big in my life, I am choosing to begin focusing more on growing and expanding my greeting card line and less on my handmade earrings, mandalas and journals. I do not yet know how this change will impact my social media content, but just know that if you don’t see me here for a while, I am still in business and my content is just in metamorphosis! You can still shop at WholeheartedEmpire.com, and you can join my email list from my website to make sure you are in the loop on what is going on over here! I have been reflecting a lot lately—about my life, how I’d like to live it and the positive impact I’d like to have. I’ve been thinking about my businesses goals and how to achieve them.

And I am feeling a bit tired of the thought circles. It seems I am due for some quality time in nature amongst the flowers. It is time to let myself feel inspired by what is right in front of me instead of trying to plan ahead. Thank goodness it is spring. Stay tuned to see what comes next.

This is a message I wrote to my younger self about five years ago. It still holds true, and joy feels harder now than it did then. It has been interesting to notice how the messages on my cards age with time as our world changes. It can be tempting to dismiss the message now and tell myself this sentiment about joy will apply to my life again when the world feels safer and things feel more certain. But, I think the same part of me that thinks that way, is probably the same part of me that needed to hear this message five years ago. You know what I mean? I strive to use my art to make it a little easier for us all to be kinder to ourselves.

So, how do my lightweight, paper earrings contribute to this kindness intention?
•
I think that many of us are not so kind to our bodies for the sake of fashion. Take earrings for example. Many of us will wear heavy earrings that are uncomfortable at best and painful at worst, and we endure that discomfort for the sake of looking a certain way.
•
That’s why making lightweight earrings out of recycled paper is important to me. Because I want us to be able to express ourselves with our style choices without inflicting pain on ourselves. I want us all to be kinder to ourselves—kinder to our hearts, our minds, and especially our bodies.
