Matt and Jessie fashion these cases into awesome necklaces and earrings. Matthew Olsen received a Bachelors of Science in Zoology from Oregon State University, with minors in Art and Chemistry. Jessica Armstrong received a Bachelors of Science in Engineeri

ng-Physics from Oregon State University and is currently working on a Masters of Science in Mechanical Engineering. Dicosmoecus gilvipes is a species of Trichoptera in the Limnephilidae family. They can be found throughout Oregon, Washington, and Idaho in clean, cold, fast moving streams. As larvae they spend most of their time grazing on algae and fabricating cases made of small stones.

Matt is going back to the river to collect immatures again. Ours are gone so we need to try again. He should have an easier time finding them this time since it hasn't been such a dry year :)

So we do have some insects living in the tank. They survived the egg stage at least enough for us to notice them. We've been keeping an eye on it. Hoorah, it works some.

So we have just finished our first emergence. The river tank is successful in keeping a group of immatures alive and well so that they can pupate and mate. The net mostly contained them so we may have eggs in there now. Hooray for proof of concept. Now we keep it going through next year and see if we can get a bigger batch of immatures through.

Not including shipping, prices will be $12 for a bracelet, $16 for a necklace, $20 for earrings.
People can specify the length they would like for the necklace and bracelets, since we make them custom every time.
We are going to be starting a Kickstarter campaign shortly to raise funds for buying a water chiller in order to raise the insects ourselves in the future so we can offer cases in different materials.
