JON THOMPSON, ARTIST BIO:
JT Maui is named for Jon Thompson, artist and Excelsior native who spent more than a dozen years on the island of Maui before returning to his home state of Minnesota. Now in Ormond Beach, FL we spend a good amount of the year creating back at the beach. His one-of-a-kind jewelry often begins with natural gemstones, and found objects such as Lake Superior driftwood, Minnesota lake stone and hand picked sea glass and shell. His passion is to reuse and recycle. Years of island living, combined with the lakes and rivers of Minnesota have influenced his earth and water inspired creations. His love of science-fiction inspires his intricate, one-of-a-kind steampunk, which often incorporates a set of moving gears. Steampunk repurposes metals and glass, bringing the feel of the industrial revolution to the Victorian Era, and makes us wonder what the world would look like today if steam power and the absence of plastic ran still today's machines and society.
