Happy June.
Today, we stood in downtown Durham at the Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony in front of the Durham County Courthouse.
As a Black woman, a mother of Black boys, and a downtown Durham business owner, this moment felt deeply personal. It was more than a ceremony. It was a reminder of freedom fought for, history carried, and the responsibility we have to make sure our children understand the power of where they come from.
To stand there with my boys, watching that flag rise, felt like planting a seed. A seed of pride. A seed of remembrance. A seed of hope.
Juneteenth is not just history. It is legacy. It is truth. It is a reminder that freedom should never be taken lightly, and our presence in these spaces matters.
Happy Juneteenth. ❤️🖤💚
