First time blooming in our collection! ✨
We are thrilled to see Cattleya bicolor (var. measuresiana x var. punctata) open its very first blooms this past August. Beyond its striking colors and rich contrast, it completely filled our patio with the most wonderful, sweet fragrance. There’s truly nothing better than watching a new addition thrive and flower for the very first time!

Bred from a Japanese cross and grown by famous breeder Richard Takafuji in Hawaii (who named it after his wife, Lea), this awarded clone is famous for its flat, symmetrical form and rich, intensely dark fuchsia-rubra coloring. A true gem for any species collector!

💛 Did You Know? The Story Behind Cattleya violacea var. alba
I am continuing to share our Cattleya violacea collection by posting some of our favorite white forms:
C. violacea alba 'Doral', C. violacea alba 'Krull's Ghost', and C. violacea alba ('OCN White' x 'Walter Rocha').
While enjoying these blooms, I wanted to share a little piece of Venezuelan orchid history! The very first documented alba variety in Venezuela belonged to Don Luis Henrique Yanes and created a huge sensation when exhibited in Caracas back in 1957. Later in the 1970s, true alba and semialba plants were discovered along the Aro River on the property of Mrs. Elvira Bello. One of these historic specimens was confirmed by renowned orchideologist Dr. Icilio Crisci and even graced the cover of El Minero magazine in 1977!

Cattleya violacea Week!
We are excited to feature another plant from our collection: Cattleya violacea 'Kamarata' HCC/AOS!
This exceptional plant is the result of the cross (C. violacea 'Icabaru' x 'Hector Luis'). It boasts beautiful flowers with rich, darker petals, striking striped sepals, and very good flower substance.
We had the honor of receiving a Highly Commended Certificate (HCC) award for this plant from the American Orchid Society (AOS) when we exhibited it at the Redland International Orchid Festival in 2018! 🌿✨

🍃Known for its distinct structural features, Cattleya violacea stands apart from many traditional unifoliate species:
🍃Growing Type: Bifoliate species featuring elongated, cylindrical pseudobulbs topped with two rigid, leathery leaves.
🍃Inflorescence: Produces vibrant clusters of 3 or more long-lasting, flat-opening flowers per stem.
🍃Flowers: Bright rose-purple to deep violet sepals and petals paired with a striking, crimson-purple lip accented by yellow and white center markings.
