๐ Sometimes you may notice a black or greenish mark where your jewelry touches your skin (like in this photo Iโm sharing, with permission from a fellow permanent jewelry artist). This is called ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐๐ฅ๐ฅ๐ข๐ ๐๐๐ซ๐๐ฌ๐ข๐จ๐ง โ and itโs completely normal and harmless!
Hereโs whatโs happening:
โข Tiny particles of metal can rub off your jewelry when combined with things like ๐ฅ๐จ๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง, ๐๐จ๐ฌ๐ฆ๐๐ญ๐ข๐๐ฌ, ๐ฌ๐ฎ๐ง๐ฌ๐๐ซ๐๐๐ง, ๐จ๐ซ ๐ฌ๐ฐ๐๐๐ญโ these substances often contain harder compounds that interact with your jewelry.
โข The result? A little harmless discoloration on your skin.
๐ก ๐๐จ๐ฐ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐ข๐ฑ ๐ข๐ญ:
1๏ธโฃ Simply wash your skin with mild soap and water.
2๏ธโฃ Gently clean your jewelry with mild soap and a soft-bristled toothbrush (those free ones from your dentist are perfect!).
โ
Important to know โ this has nothing to do with the quality of your jewelry. It can happen even with solid gold, 14k gold-filled, or sterling silver pieces. Itโs not permanent and itโs NOT the same as skin staining from cheap, poor-quality metals.
๐๐ซ๐จ ๐ญ๐ข๐ฉ: Using cleaner, more natural lotions and products can help prevent it from happening in the first place.
โจ I personally havenโt had any clients mention this yet, but Iโm sharing for ๐๐๐ฎ๐๐๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐๐ฅ ๐ฉ๐ฎ๐ซ๐ฉ๐จ๐ฌ๐๐ฌ so you know what to expect and what to do if it happens!
