Gorgeously Unique!

Non-traditional engagement ring styles are taking the 2024 market by storm. As highlighted in a recent JCK Magazine article, curved rings are not just gaining traction, they are a growing trend. Shoppers are decisively leaning towards distinctive, bespoke-style rings. A curved ring doesn't just meet this demand, it defines it!

Sold! For over US$ 25 million, this rare 11.16 carat Fancy Vivid blue diamond was purchased after its auction debut yesterday at Sotheby's. The “vivid” color grade identified by GIA during analysis contributes to the rarity of this stone, with about 5% of blue diamonds submitted to GIA achieving this color grade.

Good information to know when selecting the diamond of your dreams.

Did you know that there's a difference between a diamond’s shape and its cut style? Popular diamond shapes include round, oval, pear, marquise, heart and more. A diamond’s cut style describes how its facets are arranged, which is typically either brilliant cut or step cut.
Most diamond shapes are usually brilliant cut. Although, square and rectangular diamonds can be either brilliant cut or step cut. Brilliant cut examples include princess and radiant cuts. Step cut examples include emerald and Asscher cuts.
Facets on brilliant cut diamonds tend to be triangular or kite-shaped, whereas, facets tend to be trapezoidal on step cut diamonds.

This D color, Flawless 102.34 carat diamond, about the size of a half dollar in diameter, sold for a pretty penny at auction in 2018. Mined in Botswana, it was said to be the largest round brilliant cut diamond of this quality sold at auction.

According to Tom Moses, executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer at GIA, diamonds like these are "accidental freaks of nature." Since all of the diamonds we have now were created millions to billions of years ago and no new significant diamond deposits have been discovered recently, miners are less likely to unearth many more diamonds of this size.

Catch a falling star. A Sotheby's employee holds a 102.39 carat D-Flawless oval diamond in the palm of her hand. This beauty, found in the Victor Mine in Ontario, Canada, was auctioned off at Sotheby’s Hong Kong in October 2020 for US$15.7 million. The buyer won the bid over the phone and named the diamond “Maiko Star” after his second daughter. He is also the owner of the 88.22 carat D-Flawless “Manami Star" named after his oldest daughter. Less than one-half of one percent of all diamonds over one carat submitted to GIA are D color and Internally Flawless or Flawless clarity, which makes these diamonds very rare.
