One of the most fascinating parts of traditional Bai tie-dye is seeing the transformation of color. When the fabric is first lifted from the natural indigo dye vat, it appears a vibrant green. As it is exposed to oxygen in the air, a chemical reaction begins, and within minutes the green gradually oxidizes into a rich, deep blue. This magical transition is one of the defining characteristics of natural indigo dyeing and reflects the remarkable chemistry behind this centuries-old craft.

✨ Another wonderful Batik Workshop in the books!

Participants created symmetrical mosaic-inspired designs while learning the basics of wax resist and dyeing techniques. This hands-on practice helped build a strong foundation for next week's more personal and expressive batik creations.

It was a joy to see everyone so focused and to admire the beautiful pieces they made. Looking forward to continuing our batik journey next week!

Today we had our first batik workshop for 2026.

In this week’s batik class, we started by practicing some simple wax-drawing patterns, gradually becoming familiar with the basic techniques of batik and how to create lines and designs with wax. In next Sunday’s class, we will continue exploring different batik techniques, using a variety of dyeing methods to create different background effects. We will also experiment with different artistic styles to make the final pieces richer and more layered.
