The Alice Treasure Chest

I found this cute little chest in serious need of a face lift. Its finish was awful, cracked and peeling, and covered in fingernail polish.

So a Shabby Art finish seemed right. After it was cleaned and repaired repaired, I gave it several coats of a custom white sage green chalk paint and blended over my custom shade Old lavender. It is the perfect soft Victorian, faded background color for the layered techniques used on this sweet little box that also boasts a new lining of dark grey velveteen.

The illustration used is from the acid free heavy cardstock Stamperia collection. It is based on the original art by John Tenniel published in the original 1875 Lewis Carroll children's book Alice in Wonderland. The picture was trimmed, thickness reduced and applied.

Additionally, distressed Raised Lace stenciling fine sanded smooth and my signature Shattered Gold top finish add depth. After several weeks curing, several layers of clear wax were applied and hand buffed until a slick, soft shine was achieved.

All hardware is updated. Proper hinges and an easy-to-use, secure upcycled vintage solid brass snap down clasp is the perfect finishing touch.

This piece was joy to make. I do so love keeping old items out of the landfill and giving them a whole new life.
