What could they possibly have in common? Well they were alive at the same time, and then Father Francis Xavier Seelos once asked the President’s permission to excuse his students from serving in the Civil War. President Lincoln never officially excused them, but they were also never drafted! God was faithful to his servants and their care of His flock even in the darkest hours of our country. Blessed Francis Xavier Seelos pray for us and we will be sure to pray for your cause for canonization.

Tiny flowers in tiny fingers— it really is THE MOST IMPORTANT WORK!

Friends, don’t ever, EVER, fall for the lie that your most important work lives in your to-do list, your paycheck, your social standing, your volunteer status, your title, or any other achievement. Those are all just extra-credit! Your MOST IMPORTANT work is your family! Mother Teresa said it best when she said, “if you want to change the world to home and love your family.” Take good care of yourself, body and soul, so you can take good care of them, body and soul! I firmly believe this focus is the path to both a long life and Heaven!

Go to church, read the daily gospel, pray, go for long walks, cook good meals, play outside, laugh, watch old movies, play fun games, snuggle, cheer on the sidelines, sing beautiful songs, read great books, dance, listen, learn, give big hugs, share tiny flower bouquets, doing all these things—and with your family, this is the recipe to living well, having done the MOST IMPORTANT WORK! Pay close attention to the things not included in this list!

Lord, I come before You with a humble heart, seeking Your guidance and strength. Today, I am reminded of the extraordinary courage and Christ-like love displayed by the Ulma family as they faced the darkest of times during the N**i regime, sheltering Jews and ultimately sacrificing their lives for the sake of others.

Lord, I pray that You grant me the bravery to follow in their footsteps, to be a beacon of love, compassion, and selflessness in a world often filled with darkness and hatred. Help me to live a life that reflects Your love just as the Ulma family did.

Give me the strength to stand up for what is right, even when it is difficult or dangerous. Fill my heart with the same unwavering faith and love that inspired the Ulma family to make the ultimate sacrifice. Let their example be a guiding light on my path towards becoming more like You.

May I never forget the lessons of their sacrifice and the importance of living a life rooted in love and service to others. I ask for Your continued guidance and protection, knowing that with Your help, I can strive to be brave and Christ-like, just as the Ulma family was.

In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, Amen.

Pope Gregory, a name revered so high,
In cloistered halls, he sought the heavenly sky.
A servant of God, in humble, sacred shroud,
His wisdom vast, his heart devout.

In robes of white, he led the faithful throng,
Guiding souls with faith, both firm and strong.
In quiet moments, his thoughts did roam,
To lands of God, in the cloistered home.

His words, like whispers in the sacred night,
Brought solace to those in doubt and fright.
With pen in hand, and scripture as his muse,
He penned the truths that many would choose.

A saintly figure, with a gentle grace,
Pope Gregory’s presence, a holy space.
In hermit’s cell, he found his earthly lot,
A shepherd of souls, in God’s own thought.

Though ages pass, his legacy endures,
In verses, prayers, and sacred cures.
Pope Gregory’s light, a beacon for the soul!
