A pool of water on this crazy smokey Monday. Listed.
There was a visible haze in my house yesterday, so we gathered our box fans and our filters to fix what we could. I watered my flowers with extra love, and spent time in the studio where I could hide a little. We didn’t eat on the porch outside and we tried to drink cold things fast. If you left any sign on your plate of a meal consumed outside, it quickly disappeared from some mean & hungry bees waiting for their chance.
This time of year is tricky. Summer has us beat, and asks for more. Berries swell, and tempers follow. The Western Smoke settles in one evening and a fox steals the last duck in the neighbors coop. I sleep well for all the swimming I’ve done, and because the windows are closed, it’s only Rudy who knew about murderous things afoot.
I hope the rain comes soon. I hope the August Lion plays nice. In Montana, it’s common for this season to be opaque wildfire that burns your nose and eyes, so I have lots of half-cooked ideas and some pretty ugly things to show for it. But I think it’s an okay thing to make creativity a priority when it flows more like heat, and sweat. Uncomfortable? Yes. Fruitless? Definitely not. I’m onto a lot of good things, and am trying hard to show up on time with a smile. I’m a perfectionist at heart, and a dreamer at best. So head down, t**s up. That’s what my sister always says. It’s nice to remember that August might not always play nice, but her burn fades and tans us all a perfect shade of beautiful, and I’d argue we all wear our best colors in August. Especially blue.
