Story time!!! I’ve been saving this one for a while.
At the end of last beach combing season I found a large bright white glass tile at the beach. It wasn’t ocean rubbed at all but I took it home anyway, even though I figured I would never do anything with it. It was so large and cumbersome that I stashed it away for a while. Fast forward a couple months I got a new high powered black light for Christmas so I of course had to shine it on ALL my glass to see what pieces glowed and to my utter surprise the tile glowed!! I tried to do research on it but couldn’t find anything. I’m assuming it has to be a pretty old piece because it is uranium milk glass and I don’t believe they are currently using that type of glass as building material.
Anyway, I was browsing on TikTok one day and one of the accounts I follow came across my page. The account is called Lava Blades. Zack makes arrowheads the traditional way with bone tools and the video that came across my feed was of him making an arrowhead with an old piece of blue glass that a friend of his found in a glass dump. At that instant I remembered the glass tile and decided to reach out to him to see if he could do anything with the tile I found. I initially tried to reach him through TikTok but he has 2.7 million followers and I think my message got lost in the fray. I was determined though so I found him on instagram and sent him a message. A few days later he responded saying he would love to try to make a spearhead for me! So I sent out the glass and hoped for the best. A couple weeks later he reached out to tell me he had made a video of the piece! That video has over 4.4 million views!!!
I am now the proud owner of (as far as I know) the only uranium milk glass hand made spearhead in existence. In the video he says he was going to make a second one with the half that broke but that piece broke as well. The piece came today in perfect condition as well as a small obsidian arrowhead he gifted me for the other piece breaking. Excited is an understatement. This will be a treasured piece in my collection from now on.
