This is my idea of a Sunday afternoon.

A bottle of Private Picnic Riesling, warm pretzels, live music drifting across the lawn, beautiful gardens surrounding us—and absolutely nowhere we needed to be.

Sometimes the best winery visits aren't about rushing through a tasting. They're about finding a comfortable spot, pouring another glass, and simply enjoying where you are.

That's exactly what we found at Worthington Pond.

The Unexpected Vineyard Moment

Not everyone at the winery was there for the Riesling…

One of my favorite things about exploring small farm wineries is never quite knowing what you'll discover.

At Worthington Pond, the wine shares the spotlight with beautiful gardens, wandering paths, farm animals—and one very attentive four-legged supervisor keeping an eye on the goats!

It's these unexpected moments that often become my favorite memories from a vineyard visit.

THE HAUL!

AND HERE’S WHAT CAME HOME WITH ME...

This may be my favorite part.

Back at the studio, I unpack everything and spread out the day’s treasures. Suddenly, what looked like individual purchases at the show begins to look like a collection.

Tiger Eye. Soft greens. Smoky grays. Creams and pearls. Warm metallics. Touches of rust and amber...

Without really planning it, my fall palette had begun to appear.

Now comes the hardest question:

What do I create FIRST?

Some of these gemstones will soon become new Tangled Vine Jewelry designs—and now you’ve gotten a peek at them before I’ve made a single piece.

SO MANY CHOICES...

This is where the trouble begins.

I may arrive at the Gem Show knowing what I need, but then I spot a color, an unusual shape or a beautiful strand I wasn’t expecting.

I pick it up.

I turn it over.

And suddenly the question isn’t “Do I need this?”

It’s...

“What could I CREATE with this?”

That’s one of my favorite parts of designing—sometimes the gemstone chooses the direction before I ever have a finished piece in mind.

What would catch YOUR eye first?

Cool blues
Earthy greens
Warm fall browns

FIRST POUR | A Little Detour...

This week, The Vineyard Journal is taking a detour from the vineyard—and heading somewhere equally tempting!

I’m at the annual wholesale Gem Show, stocking up on gemstones and supplies for the upcoming fall season at Tangled Vine Jewelry.

Imagine walking into a room filled with hundreds of vendors and thousands upon thousands of gemstones. Amethyst, Tiger Eye, pearls, jasper, sparkling crystals, colors I recognize...and stones I’ve never seen before.

I arrived with a list.
I arrived with a budget.

And then I saw the gemstones!

Nature's Palette...with a Twist

Vineyard green.
Ridge blue.
Chardonnay gold.
Rosé blush.
Barn red.

And...
CORVETTE YELLOW!

Okay, perhaps that last one wasn't technically part of the vineyard landscape.

But when a bright yellow Corvette shows up during a winery adventure, this artist is adding it to the color palette.

You never quite know where inspiration will come from.

FIRST POUR | A New Vineyard Journal

This week's journey takes us to Glendale Ridge Vineyard in Southampton, Massachusetts—a beautiful place where the story began not with wine, but with a desire to preserve the land.

What started with the purchase of an old farm eventually became rows of Riesling, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc and more...and a vineyard built around family, farming and a connection to this beautiful corner of New England.

Their philosophy caught my attention:

Every bottle tells a story.

Something New is Pouring at Tangled Vine Jewelry...

If you've followed me for a while, you probably know that the inspiration behind Tangled Vine Jewelry often begins long before I sit down at my worktable.

It might begin with a walk through a vineyard, an afternoon at a winery, an unexpected color in the landscape, or simply a wonderful glass of wine shared along the way.

I've always loved sharing little pieces of those experiences with you. But I've been wanting a place where I could tell you the rest of the story.

So I'm delighted to introduce...

The Vineyard Journal

A new feature on the Tangled Vine Jewelry website where I'll share the vineyards and wineries I visit, the people and places I discover, glimpses behind the easel, nature's color palettes, gemstone inspiration—and, of course, how some of those experiences eventually find their way into the jewelry I create.

And for our very first journey, we don't have to travel very far...

We're heading to Echo Hill Orchards Winery & Distillery in Monson, Massachusetts.
