CHARNEL HOUSE 40TH ANNIVERSARY EDITION BOOK
The Charnel House limited edition is designed with custom titles that look written on water—endleaves of ancient maps and ships parchment printed title pages, and Tim Powers’ outstanding painting of Blackbeard. Now in a beautifully handcrafted 40th anniversary edition with a new afterword by the author.

200 Numbered copies are hand-bound in full Canvas Sail Cloth with a reproduction of the pamphlet cover of, Ponce De Leon Springs: The Fountain Of Youth, embedded in the front board and blind-stamped with Blackbeard’s main sail on the back board.

26 Lettered copies are hand-bound in full Hunter Green Morocco Leather with a five compartment raised hub spine, hand stamped in gold. The corners are covered with etched bronze tips. Housed in a handmade traycase bound in Canvas Sail Cloth with the Ponce De Leon reproduction on top of the case.

Handbound in beautiful light green mint Morocco Niger leather (custom dyed for this edition) with a mock Hemingway manuscript title page (as described in the story) deeply imbedded inside a die-cut front board. The leather wraps around and under the edges of the top board, handsomely framing the Hemingway page in beautiful mint Morocco leather. A superb example of the bookbinder’s craft.

Empty Chamber by Tim Powers

Uncle Samuel had agreed, after years of turning down such requests, to let some spiritualist open the vacuus cubicularius at the core of the old house. Lucy had sometimes, late at night, padded with a candle all the way down the oldest hallway and touched the corroded iron door in the ancient masonry which had originally borne an inscription in some primordial script stating that no human had ever set foot on the ground enclosed in it. Its present iron door had supposedly been bolted onto the stone in the 12th century. Once, she had worked up the nerve to knock on it, but her little knuckles produced no sound at all but after pressing her palm against the door, the cold corroded iron had shivered in a faint but rapid rhythm, as if with the rushing footsteps of a giant still very far away.
