Jim Geray (age 72) and I (age 60) rode the as a 2 man relay team. I tallied up the ride data for Jim and I from our Strava rides:
Me: 292.02 miles, 23,045 feet gain (78.92 feet gain per mile)
Jim: 323.95 miles, 19,629 feet gain (60.59 feet gain per mile)
So Jim rode 31.93 miles further than I did and I climbed 3,416 feet more than Jim.
Totals: 615.97 miles, 42,674 feet gain.
Pretty even I think given Jim’s extra distance and my extra climbing. 😊
Our finishing time was 5 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes.

How rough are some of the gravel roads on the Ride Across Arizona? Enough to shear off the tail light mount on my divide rack! Talk about rough! 😂

Yesterday was our last day on the Ride Across Arizona! Jim and I did a hard push for our longest day and went 124 miles from the OHV trail outside of Show Low to the finish line at the New Mexico border near Blue, AZ. After the previous day’s rough ride from Forest Lakes to Show Low, the trails felt so smooth! We had a great day on the bikes! Our finishing time was 5 days, 13 hours, 24 minutes! Not bad for two older dudes…

Day 5 from a dispersed campsite along the Mogollon Rim to Show Low. The section from Forest Lakes to Show Low is just as chunky as ever! Some hard riding through there even though it is generally descending. Made it to the Maverick OHV trail before stopping for the night.

End of day 4 of the Ride Across Arizona with a beautiful view from the Mogollon Rim! Good day today, only one real issue. My Garmin 67i battery was getting low, so at one of our rider swaps I plugged it into a portable battery pack. For an unknown reason to me, that stopped the tracking feature. Very odd. So our line on trackleaders is missing about 4 hours of ride time. D’oh!!
Trust me, we did ride it and have our ride data to prove it, but now I know I need to check to make sure tracking stays on when it is connected to power.
Sausages and ravioli for dinner tonight. And did i mention the view?!? Wow!!

Day 3 of the 2026 Ride Across Arizona is in the books! 95 miles eliminated today (about 9 miles short of the end of segment 3 in Flagstaff). In the morning we will head back to where we stopped, but we decided to stop early and drive into Fort Tuthill campground for the night so that it would still be light to make dinner and setup camp. We might get a later start in the morning tomorrow so we can make some bacon and eggs for breakfast. We brought all this food with us, we should be using it!

End of Day 2 of the Ride Across Arizona! Another great day! Still had a bit of wind, but the forecasted rain didn’t happen, it was further east. As we got close to Seligman the storm clouds along the route looked worse and worse and the morning low is expected to be around 30 degrees, so we made a command decision to call it an early day in Seligman and got a room at the Supai Motel. That shower felt fantastic! The wash cloth was a bit brown when I finished, but it was nice to get the old sweat and sun screen off. It’ll be cold for the start tomorrow, but no rain in the forecast. Hopefully the route dries out quickly.

Great first day on the ! Stopped about 4 miles short of Bagdad (110 miles for the day). Had dinner in Bagdad then setup camp on BLM land just outside of town. Stopped again at the diner in town for breakfast then we will head back to where we stopped last night. First train of the trip was right there at the start in Topock!

Made it to Needles, CA for the 2026 Ride Across Arizona! Drove over with Ken Olson, Mark Beck and Jim Geray. Ken and Mark are riding solo unsupported, but Jim and I will be a two man relay team with my truck for support. We are the “JA” dot (Jim And Mike) on trackleaders.
Dinner tonight at the Wagon Wheel Restaurant in Needles. They are also making us some breakfast burritos to go for breakfast tomorrow morning. 👍👍😁
