And now the most exciting announcement.
After missing last year's kidding season and 2 failed breedings to Charlie, I paired Ginger with Cash. We can expect their babies around july 4th 🎆😍

Also have yet to introduce our handsome, polled, blue eyed new herd sire, Johnny Cash.
Cash is a silly, sweet boy! I just adore him 😍

🌿 Can goats really be raised naturally? 🐐

It sounds simple—but the truth might surprise you. From environment and diet to minerals and parasite management, most of us aren’t raising goats in their natural habitat. That’s why it’s so important to understand what “natural” really means when it comes to goat care.

Whether you’re new to goats or have been raising them for years, this is a perspective worth exploring.

🐐 FUN FACT FRIDAY! 🌞
Goats don’t sweat! Instead, they rely on panting and finding shade to cool down. This makes them extra vulnerable to heat stress during our hot Arkansas summers.

👉 Signs of heat stress to watch for:
🔥 Rapid breathing or panting
🔥 Weakness or stumbling
🔥 Drooling or refusing to eat

💡 How to help:
✅ Provide plenty of shade
✅ Offer cool, clean water at all times
✅ Use fans or misters on extremely hot days

Keep your goats cool so they can keep being their playful, climbing selves! 🐐💦

🐐 DID YOU KNOW?
Goats don’t just eat anything — they’re actually browsers, not grazers like cows or sheep. 🌿 This means they prefer to nibble on leaves, twigs, and shrubs over plain grass. Their adventurous taste buds help keep weeds and brush under control!

👉 Health Tip: Because goats like to sample so many things, they’re at risk of ingesting parasite eggs from low-growing plants and contaminated areas.
✅ Rotate pastures
✅ Keep feeders off the ground
✅ Regularly check their eyelids for signs of anemia

Keeping their environment clean and their diet diverse keeps your herd happy and healthy!

🐐 GOAT FACT FRIDAY 🩺
Did you know a goat’s pupils are rectangular? 👁️ That’s not just for show — it helps them spot predators from nearly 320 degrees around without moving their heads! Talk about built-in security 👀

Speaking of keeping watch… are you checking your goats’ eyelids for anemia regularly? Pale inner eyelids can be a sign of Barber Pole Worms (Haemonchus contortus) — a silent killer in warm, humid weather.
🔍 Use the FAMACHA chart to check their eye color every 2–3 weeks this summer. Early detection saves lives!

Want a FAMACHA card or need help learning how to use it? Message us — we’re happy to help! 💬💉

Did you know? 🐐💩

One of the most common mistakes in goat care is routine, unsupervised deworming. While it might seem helpful, it can actually cause serious problems by creating parasite resistance — meaning dewormers stop working when you really need them.

At Turtle Cove, we believe in f***l testing first — because treating only when necessary keeps your goats healthier, your wallet happier, and parasite resistance low. 💪🔬

A simple f***l exam can tell you:
✅ If your goat has a parasite load
✅ What kind of parasites are present
✅ Whether treatment is needed — or not

This targeted approach helps:
✔️ Prevent resistance
✔️ Save money
✔️ Protect your herd’s long-term health

📸 Our goats are healthy and thriving — not because they’re dewormed on a schedule but because their care is based on facts, not guesswork.

Those cute faces in the photo? They’re thriving because we test, not guess. 😉
