I never want someone to see their silver looking a little darker and immediately think, “Is my jewelry ruined?!” Because most likely it’s not!

Tarnishing is a normal part of owning sterling silver and it doesn’t mean your jewelry is damaged or poor quality. And honestly, it’s usually way less dramatic in real life than a side by side photo makes it look. It happens gradually so you may not even notice your silver getting a little darker until you compare it to a brand new piece. Some people actually LOVE that slightly darker, lived in silver look!

This customer was the perfect real life example. Her sterling tarnished, she gave it a little TLC, and it polished beautifully right back up. And clearly it didn’t scare her away from silver because the next time I saw her, she added even more to her stack 😂🤍

My biggest advice when choosing your jewelry: think about the aftercare that fits your lifestyle and/or the look you desire. If you don’t mind an occasional polish, sterling is a beautiful choice. Maybe you prefer the slightly darker, more lived in look and simply let it do its thing! And if you’re someone who wants something a little more low maintenance, gold filled might be more your speed!
