Matcha is fun, but it certainly does not taste like coffee.

Barley tea gets much closer. It has a nutty, toasty, bitter flavor, which makes it especially useful if you miss the taste and ritual of coffee while cutting back on caffeine.

You can keep it simple, turn it into an iced almond milk latte, or go in an entirely different direction and add roasted barley tea to homemade dark chocolate bark.

One practical note on the bark: the barley grains should crunch easily rather than feel hard, but it is still worth chewing carefully just in case you get a hard one.

Save this for later, or send it to a caffeine-free friend.

Imagine finding a new chocolate brand with six flavors: dark, sea salt, mint, peanut butter, strawberry, and orange.

Except these aren’t actual chocolate bars. They’re part of a Flora Celeste art piece built around an imaginary line of healthy chocolate.

The chocolate may not be real, but the artwork is. Which flavor would catch your eye first?: dark, sea salt, mint, peanut butter, strawberry, or orange?

For the record, Flora Celeste is still an art brand.

But putting the name on these wrappers made something click.

Food, healthy living, fun colors, patterns, packaging and hand-drawn artwork can all belong in the same little Flora Celeste world.

And this may only be the beginning.

The chocolate bar artwork is planned for the future Flora Celeste shop, which will hopefully be opening soon. Follow along so you don’t miss it.

No actual peanut butter chocolate bars included. Sorry.

Sometimes a new idea does not need another new idea piled on top of it.

The chocolate bar drawing started with generic packaging, and it was looking pretty boring.

Putting Flora Celeste on the wrappers changed the direction of the piece. Instead of inventing another unrelated brand, the artwork could build on a visual identity that already existed.

Now that one decision has perhaps created a whole new rabbit hole: imaginary Flora Celeste snacks, cafĆ©s, protein products…

Apparently there is an entire little world waiting to be drawn.

Bad news: none of these chocolate bars actually exist.

Good news: the artwork does.

Flora Celeste accidentally became an imaginary chocolate company while designing an art print, complete with six flavors and their own color-coded packaging.

But the question is, would you rather:

Plain, orange, sea salt, mint, peanut butter, or strawberry?

The nut butter brand we need 🄰 If Dog-On Good! Nut Butter existed, it would be organic, no sugar or seed oils, and full of personality. Maybe I’ll play with this idea a little more, and give it a variety of flavors such as chocolate and pumpkin spice.

Let me know what other health foods need new packaging!
