Castlebarn Curio: A Brief History

When I was a little girl I was drawn to charm bracelets, and how they could tell a story about someone, what they like, where they’ve been, and who they were. Back in 2012 Castlebarn Curio was started right here on Etsy under a different name, with a bag of unsorted charms and a strange inclination for categorizing and sorting little tiny objects. I started in a small office in my families renovated barn in Vermont. Back then, it was a way to earn a little extra pocket money, while staying home with my 3 boys.

Fast forward to today, and it’s become so much more than that. In the last year I’ve experienced more life changes than anyone should reasonably experience at once! My oldest son is now grown, I am no longer married, I’m a college student, and I’ve moved myself, my kids, and my business all the way down to Asheville, NC. The state my heart has been in since my early twenties (and what a perfect place to be artistically inspired!).

Over time, my shop has transitioned from selling just a few new items, to mostly vintage supplies I source from various places around the country. The first time I stepped into an old warehouse and went on that treasure hunt I was hooked and it brings me so much joy to share the inspired nostalgia that I find, with you. Most of my items are from the 50’s, 60’s, 70’s and 80’s and I can often remember seeing some of them on jewelry as a child. I adore seeing what my customers are creating and love providing a place to find unique, one of kind, and often limited quantity beads and findings. And it feels so good to know that what I sell will end up in something beautiful and handmade, and not in the landfill where old jewelry manufacturers often put their unused items.

When you place an order, I am the start to finish. All my items are stored in covered, waterproof containers, in a room off my dry basement. I’ve taken my love of sorting and organizing to the next level! I pack them carefully in appropriate boxes or bubble mailers and I ship super fast!
