The week before Labor Day Weekend and somehow I find myself busier than ever. With team members on vacation and a brunt of the work falling on my plate as usual, I’m not going to lie the thought crossed my mind to “Callin Sick.” However, no-days off mentality and the pile of work with deadlines, just wouldn’t allow for that. The reward, you ask? Cracking a few mid-week cold ones. Today we’re turning to Deep Fried Beer’s Callin Sick, which happens to be hopped with 10+ pounds of Mosiac, El Dorado and a use of experimental hop Pink aka ID-158. The latter was from Jackson Farms, whose hails from Boise and is behind Idaho-7. Today’s DIPA, I will admit, isn’t exactly stealing the crown from some of my favorite DFB releases, but I was able to try a few times since the drop as I had extra cans on hand. Melon, strawberry, pineapple, citrus, and almost a peach gummy on the tongue. Piney bitterness fades quickly with a lingering acridity on the tongue that interrupts the overall tasting experience. Your quite parched after a few sips, so don’t call it a thirst quencher by any means. On the thicker side with big hoppy presence. Congratulations to Deep Fried on their own spot! Certainly looking forward to what’s next.
