Do you feel tired? Shut down? Like an exposed nerve?

The nervous system stores unprocessed emotions, trauma, and remembers things we've been through. When it reaches its capacity (different for everyone) we can begin to experience nervous system shut down and that can make it harder to enjoy life, complete tasks, and connect with peers

Life right now can feel a little chaotic but we still must take care of ourselves and be gentle. Don't beat yourself up because you're having a hard time

Unlike many figures in Greek mythology, Melinoë has only one surviving myth, preserved within the Orphic tradition.

According to the Orphic Hymns, after Persephone became Queen of the Underworld, Zeus desired her. Taking the form of Hades himself, Zeus entered the Underworld and approached Persephone disguised as her husband.

From this union Melinoë was conceived.

The deception left a permanent mark upon the child.

Ancient texts describe Melinoë as having a body divided into two colours, one side pale and luminous, the other dark and shadowed. Her appearance reflected her unusual origin and her existence between opposing states.

She belonged neither fully to the world of the living nor entirely to the realm of the dead.

As she matured, Melinoë became associated with restless spirits, phantoms, nightmares, and the dead who wandered beyond their proper boundaries. While Hades ruled the Underworld itself, Melinoë moved through the night alongside ghosts, appearing in dreams, visions, and moments of terror after sunset.

The Orphic Hymn to Melinoë describes her roaming the earth with spectral beings, startling mortals through strange apparitions and encounters with unseen forces. Sudden fear in darkness, ghostly visitations, and disturbances attributed to wandering spirits became linked to her presence.

Unlike Persephone, who moved between worlds according to the seasons, Melinoë existed permanently between them. Her divided form symbolised a being standing on the threshold separating life and death, light and shadow, visible and invisible.

No great heroic quest surrounds her.

No epic battle defines her story.

Her myth is the myth.

A child born from deception, marked by duality, and destined to walk forever among the spirits that others feared.

When Greeks spoke of ghosts moving through the night, many believed they were never travelling alone.

Melinoë was already walking beside them.

How the F**K can't you get real roses

But even store bought roses tend to be sprayed with God knows what

F**k is wrong with people

To whoever just proposed at Black Beach… I hope she said no 🤷‍♀️

Nothing says “forever” quite like covering Black Beach in hundreds of fake rose petals and then leaving them there for everyone else to clean up.

This morning, my clients and I showed up for our sunrise session and found this mess scattered across the beach. Not a few petals that accidentally blew away. Hundreds of them. Clearly left behind after a proposal or elopement.

And since apparently cleaning up after themselves was too much work, I’m currently picking them all up.

Black Beach is one of the North Shore’s most unique and visited destinations. Thousands of people come here every year to enjoy it. The locals who live here shouldn’t have to spend their time cleaning up after people who show up, use the place as a backdrop, and then leave their garbage behind when they’re done.

The North Shore isn’t your personal venue. If you bring it in, take it out. It’s really not a difficult concept.

If this was you, do better.

And if anyone recognizes a recent proposal or elopement at Black Beach involving fake rose petals, I’d love to know who thought leaving hundreds of plastic petals behind was acceptable.

Romantic gestures are great. Treating a public beach like your personal dumpster isn’t.

Be a better human.
